Another proof to show the real face of Steve Ballmer

I came across this old blog today. It was an interesting read. It happened at the time when some employees left Microsoft to Join Google. This was a statement from Mark Lucovsky.

Prior to joining Google, I set up a meeting on or about November 11, 2004 with Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer to discuss my planned departure….At some point in the conversation Mr. Ballmer said: “Just tell me it’s not Google.” I told him it was Google.

At that point, Mr. Ballmer picked up a chair and threw it across the room hitting a table in his office. Mr. Ballmer then said: “Fucking Eric Schmidt is a fucking pussy. I’m going to fucking bury that guy, I have done it before, and I will do it again. I’m going to fucking kill Google.”

This guy is more evil than Bill Gates and has no brain. It would have been more fun if this conversation was videotaped. Ballmer is more like a joker than a CEO.

Microsoft trying to kill open source – another proof?

Linux Magazine reports:

Steve Ballmer’s deal with the Catalonian government is seen as a leverage against their existing Open Source strategy.  It was a pretty personal deal between Steve Ballmer and president of the Generalitat de Catalunya José Montilla. According to an announcement out of Barcelona, Microsoft is to provide the Catalonian schools with touchscreen PCs and projects, making it easier for their students and teachers to cozy up to their proprietary software. The first transaction was to present the city of Lleida a new computer center.

Minister of education Ernest Maragall had announced in April 2008 that hundreds of schools would be switched to GNU/Linux.

Bill Gates – Ballmer clash out in open

The Wall Street Journal has an article describing the power struggle between Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer in the last few years. Here are some excerpts from that article:

It was early 2000, and Bill Gates had relinquished the chief executive’s job at Microsoft Corp. to Steve Ballmer – Mr. Gates retained the power, triggering a year long struggle between the two men that until now has remained largely under wraps.

Things became so bitter that, on one occasion, Mr. Gates stormed out of a meeting in a huff after a shouting match in which Mr. Ballmer jumped to the defense of several colleagues.

Embattled, Mr. Gates sought help. Eventually, in January 2000, he gave his chief executive title to Mr. Ballmer. Mr. Gates became Microsoft’s “chief software architect,” a new position that, in theory, was below that of Mr. Ballmer.

Soon, the two men clashed as Mr. Ballmer tried to assert himself in his new job. As the firm’s iconic leader, Mr. Gates still held sway that wasn’t tied to a title: In meetings Mr. Gates would interject with sarcasm, undermining Mr. Ballmer in front of other executives, Mr. Gates and other Microsoft executives say.Other Microsoft executives tried to step in, calling Messrs. Gates and Ballmer into a meeting with a clear message: Your struggles threaten the company, according to people familiar with the situation.

Microsoft’s board held its own discussions with the two men, and also dispatched Dave Marquardt, a director and early Microsoft investor, to have periodic dinners with the two to help sort through the troubles.

The stress on Mr. Ballmer was clear one morning in January 2001 while he was in Paris for an annual review of Microsoft’s businesses. In his hotel room at 3 a.m. after a long day of meetings, Mr. Ballmer posed a telling question to Mr. Raikes, the veteran Microsoft executive: “What is the CEO’s job at Microsoft?”

About Gates retirement, Once Mr. Gates leaves, “I’m not going to need him for anything. That’s the principle,” Mr. Ballmer says. “Use him, yes, need him, no.”

Interesting, but it wasn’t something unexpected.

Watch this video where a student threw eggs at Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer when Ballmer was delivering his speech at Corvinus University, Budapest. It was funny, but that’s not the way you treat people. The student also wore a T-Shirt with the wordings Microsoft = Corruption. :)

Thanks to my brother for the link.

Mandriva, which distributes Mandriva Linux, stuck a deal with Nigerian government to supply Classmate PCs with Mandriva installed. They shipped 17,000 machines initially. Mandriva, then heard a different story from the customer. According to the customer, they will pay for the Mandriva software as agreed, but will replace that with Windows afterwards. Now you know who must be behind this ugly reversal. Read Mandriva’s Cheif Executive Francois’s open letter to Steve Ballmer in his blog.
