Myka is an all in one Linux based home theater PC. The good news about Myka is, it’s developed in an open platform. There is no closed source or proprietary software involved. Unlike Apple TV, which delivers only 720p high def contents and costs $229 for 40GB and $329 for 160GB, Myka costs $299 for 1 Terabyte storage and support 1080p high def videos. You can buy with wireless N support if you pay $40 more.
Since it’s based on open source software, you don’t have to use any proprietary software like iTunes. It supports more audio and video formats than Apple TV. Here are some of the features of Myka:
- Built in BitTorrent support.
- Wireless support.
- Internet Access.
- Includes a UPnP AV Server, myiHome Server, an FTP Server, Samba Server, NFS Server, its Torrent Client, and a Usenet Client
- You can access Myka from anywhere with internet connection.
- Can stream videos and photos from sites like Youtube, Flickr, Picasa etc.
- 1080p support
I haven’t used the device yet. The price and the configurations are tempting. I might buy one soon (will wait for some more reviews). If you want to see the review of Myka, check BetaNews.
