Mozilla Calendar team has released version 0.8 of Lightning and Sunbird. This release includes numerous bug fixes and some new features. I updated my Lightning addon today and it's working well so far. I like the new interface change and added Task icon.

Here are some of the new features in Lightning 0.8:

• New Task mode to display current tasks, it's details and an option to filter the tasks.
• New icon sets and reworked menu under calendar option.
• Lightning now contains an event list which
  allows the easy selection and sorting of current, future and past events.
• Category colors are now shown next to an event box.
• Events with alarms now have a visual indicator showing an alarm bell.
• New alarm dialog
• Easy conversion of mails, events and tasks into each other. The mode
  toolbar icons on the left side now function as drop targets, which allows
  you to convert an e-mail to an event or tasks (or vice versa), just by
  dragging an e-mail to the calendar icon on the left
• Visual overhaul for the today pane
• Lightning now recognizes the timezone definitions in .ics files created
  by other applications.
• Lightning now contains experimental support for
  viewing remote calendars offline.

Lightning 0.8 does not support Thunderbird 1.5.x series. You have to install Thunderbird 2.x if you want to use the new version of Lightning.
