KDE 4.0 expected to be released tomorrow

As per the release schedule of the KDE team, KDE 4.0 is expected to be released tomorrow. I’m not sure how many of the bugs that were outstanding as of RC2 were fixed by the KDE team. I hope they release a really stable version that includes fixes for minor UI bugs like missing icons for lot of menu entries, System settings not starting, root password not working etc. I’m eagerly waiting for the final release of KDE 4.0. I soon might replace my desktop Ubuntu OS with Kubuntu, after 8.04 is released and keep Ubuntu in my laptop. Kudos to the KDE team for their effort on developing KDE 4.0.

Update: After updating my Kubuntu today (that includes updates from the last few days), KDE 4.0 now got sounds while logging in and out. Though it’s sounds decent. it still sounds similar to other OSes login sounds. It would have been better if it was little different. System setting is working now. Lot of menu items don’t have icons yet. Check the screenshot below. Another option I would like to have is to add applications to the taskbar similar to KDE 3.5.x.

Kde4 Menu

Kde 4 Menu2

Kde4 Sudo

(KDE 4 root password problem)

It’s more or less stable. Most of the bugs I have mentioned are cosmetic. The only irritating problem is with running applications that require sudo password. It doesn’t work as I mentioned.

I’m waiting for this with bated breath. But given some of the issues so far, I think I’ll wait to download till after I read what you’ve got to say … ;-)
