Got the new GMail

My GMail was updated to the new version yesterday. You won't see a big difference when you login. If your GMail is updated, you will see an option on top right saying Older Version, as shown in the picture below. If you don't see that option, you are still using the older version. I didn't notice the older version option first. When I logged in yesterday, the inbox first appeared shrunk and then expanded, once GMail completed loading the inbox. I was wondering why it was acting weird. I then found out that my GMail Manager addon is not showing the new message alert. I then noticed the older version option on top. GMail is working fine today. I hope the developer will update GMail Manager addon soon to make it compatible with the new GMail version.

The major part of the update was to the contact list. The new contact manager sports inline search, grouping of contacts, better import and export options etc. There are some minor features added everywhere including Picasa integration for adding a picture to your GMail setting (screenshot below). You can select a picture from your hard drive or from Picasa web album. The reply drop down bar now sports option to filter message based on an email, option to say if the message text is garbled etc. (Picture below).

Update: There is a patch available for Gmail Manager addon for Firefox. If you have new GMail and you are using Gmail manager to check your GMail, then install this patch. This is a temporary fix and it checks the old GMail for any new mail. For more information, click here.
