I bought the Samsung LN-T4661F 46″ 1080P LCD HDTV 10 days back. When I started shopping, I wanted to buy a LCD 1080p HDTV, so that reduced the number of models to check. I then was looking at LCD TVs in Best buy since I don’t have Circuit City or Fry’s or any major electronics retailer (except Sears) here. I then narrowed down the search to 40-50″ TVs (sizes that could fit in the entertainment center). I checked the reviews at CNet, PC World etc. and also read user reviews. I narrowed it down to 3 models, One is Samsung LN-T4661F, second one is Samsung LN-T4665F and third one is a Sony model. The major difference between 4661F and 4665F is the screen type. 4661F has matte finish whereas 4665F has glossy finish. I read in the reviews that the glossy finish created problems with reflections in the lighted rooms. I rejected that since I’m going to keep the TV in the living room and it’s lighted well. I dropped the Sony one because user reviews said it showed a cloud effects on dark scenes.
I have used LN-T4661F for the past 10 days and I’m happy with it. The color quality is very good and the pictures are quite bright. I could appreciate the quality when I watch HD channels. I could see a big difference between watching analog channels and digital channels. The difference diminishes when we change between digital and HD channels though there is a noticeable difference.
The only issue I have with this TV is getting the closed caption to work. I didn’t have time to go through the manual, but I couldn’t find that option under Audio menu. There is another menu called Channels, but that’s disabled. I’m not sure if that option works only with Cable. I have Direct TV satellite system. I’m quite happy with the selection so far.
Update: I’m using the Direct TV satellite system, so the closed caption was not enabled in the T.V. menu. I had to enable it through the Direct TV remote.
