Microsoft loses OpenXML vote

The executive committee of the International Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS), reported last week that they fell one vote shy of the nine required to approve Microsoft’s Open XML standard. It voted 8 to 7 in favor of
approval with one abstention.

It’s good that they didn’t approve the Microsoft XML format. I didn’t understand how HP and Intel (who support open source) suck up to Microsoft and voted to approve the format.

InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS) has until Sept. 2 to decide whether it will support Open XML within the JTC-1 (Joint Technical Committee 1), which I hope will fail too.
