This includes GNOME and KDE desktop environment based bootable Live images that can be installed to a hard disk, a regular image for desktops, workstations, and server users and a set of DVD images that includes all software available in the Fedora repository.
- This release features GNOME 2.18 and KDE 3.5.6.
- Display devices can be hot plugged and work automatically.
- This release provides a number of firmware packages for enhanced wireless networking.

virsh tools.
- In this release, all hard disk partitions follow a
/dev/sd* naming convention due to a new libata driver interface in the kernel.
- Smolt, an opt-in tool that sends anonymous hardware profile information to the Fedora Project, is integrated with firstboot in the installer.

KWin, KDE’s window manager received a huge graphical upgrade, with composite and GL support in KDE 4. KWin has implemented effects in a way that allows a number of different rendering methods to be used, depending on your specific combination of hardware and drivers.
Effects are disabled by default at the moment, although that may change before KDE 4 ships, and distributions may decide to alter this setting anyway. When enabled, the effects are designed to degrade gracefully. If GL is not available, KWin disables GL effects but still allows Composite effects where possible via XRender. If XRender is not available, it falls back to plain X, running in the same fashion as the present KDE 3 version. To get the full array of effects, you need to have a video card (and driver) that supports AIGLX, XGL or use the proprietary Nvidia driver.
Check the screenshot below to configure window effects:

MSNBC reports that New Zealand scientists are breeding a herd of cows that produce lower-fat milk after the chance discovery of a natural gene mutation in one animal.
Milk from the cows is also high in health-boosting omega-3 fatty acids and makes butter that spreads as easily as margarine even when chilled.
Vialactia, a subsidiary of the Fonterra Cooperative Group, one of the world’s largest milk companies, bought the cow for $218 and moved it to a research site.
Scientists have yet to isolate the exact chemical pathway responsible for the naturally produced low-fat milk. The company expects the first commercial herd of cows supplying natural low-fat milk and spreadable butter for the market by 2011.
Interesting!!!!

Dell released the software and hardware details in their Direct2Dell blog for their Ubuntu offering. According to Dell, their initial offering includes
- The default software from the Ubuntu will be installed on the system, including kernel and applications.
- The peripheral options offered with Ubuntu will be a subset of what is offered with other operating systems. These hardware options have been thoroughly tested by the Linux team at Dell.
- Open source drivers are installed when possible. If unavailable, Dell installs restricted drivers. This includes Intel wireless cards and Conexant modems.
- A wiki page will be created to give technical details of the supported systems, information on the device drivers used for system peripherals, details of our Ubuntu factory-installation, and information on the problems found during the testing, with their fixes/workarounds.
- Dell recommends Linux users buy Dell printers that have PostScript engines in them.
Dell is working with the hardware vendors who don’t offer good Linux drivers, to improve the maturity and stability of their associated Linux drivers. While this may not happen overnight, Dell expects to have a broader range of hardware support with Linux over time. This is a wonderful move. This is a good chance to persuade all hardware vendors to offer Linux support.
At this time, Dell is not including any support for proprietary audio or video codecs that are not already distributed with Ubuntu 7.04. These include MPEG 1/2/3/4, WMA, WMV, DVD, Quicktime, etc.
