Bill Reminder – bill tracker for Ubuntu

Billreminder is a simple bill tracking application for Ubuntu. I installed it and started using it. Installation was simple and it’s pretty easy to use. To install Billreminder, Click here and click on download Billreminder. Once downloaded, double click the file and untar the file to a folder (say Billreminder). Open a terminal (Application -> Accessories -> Terminal) and type

cd Billreminder (press the enter key)

sudo python setup.py install (press the enter key)

Once the installation is complete, try running the application by typing

billreminder (press the enter key)

If you get an error saying “Please install pynotify” then enter the following command in the terminal:

sudo apt-get install python-notify

Start the application again by typing billreminder. It should start now. The application is pretty simple to use. Bill reminder installations adds the notifier to the system startup automatically. I added a bill reminder and it’s supposed to notify me tomorrow. I’ll know if it works or not tomorrow

Update: I have attached the screenshot of bill reminder notifier. It notifies you when you start the system. I’m not sure about the notification frequency though.

    Isaac,

You are welcome. The wallpaper is from kde-look.org.

    devnet,

It might work with other distributions. I use Ubuntu and I tested it with Ubuntu, so I know for sure it’ll work with Ubuntu. That was the reason why I wrote Ubuntu in the title. It needs python to work, so it should work with other Linux distributions also.

    [sarcasm]I’m so disappointed!

I run PCLinuxOS, SimplyMEPIS, rPath, Foresight, and CentOS Linux so that means I cannot install and use this handy tool (being that it is for Ubuntu only).

Thanks for the demonstration of the tool…but for those hundreds of thousands of us that don’t use Ubuntu it is a useless demonstration.

From the BillReminder Homepage: “BillReminder is the first desktop application I have written for the _Linux_ operating system. It pretty much started as a means to keep me involved with the open source and Gnu/Linux communities, as well as scratch my own itch! ;) It has also proven to be a great way to meet other developers and expose me to other ways of tackling software engineering problems”

Now where is that only for Ubuntu again? If you’re going to post things…make sure you’re fully accurate.

Thank you for the information! I think that I’m going to tell my mom about this software, she’s always rushing to the post office at the last minute. (^^) She might like that nice wallpaper as well; Might I ask where it is from?
