This guide will take you through the installation of Apache 2, MySQL 5 and PHP 5 under Sun Solaris Operating System or Solaris Express OS.
This article shows the technical user how to build their own up-to-date copy of PHP5 and integrate it with MySQL5 from Blastwave and the version of Apache2 included with the Solaris OS. However, for those who do not wish to compile any software, and prefer an optimized and high-performing Sun build of these packages, please check out Sun’s “Ready to Run” Cool Stack packages at http://cooltools.sunsource.net/coolstack/index.html and/or http://sunfreeware.com/coolstack.html.
For this exercise, the installation will use the following software:
- Apache as delivered with the Solaris installation
- MySQL 5, from Blastwave.org, using
pkg-get to install it
- The latest PHP 5 from php.net, downloaded and compiled
It will be built in 32-bit mode, using a mostly GNU tool chain.

PCMagazine reports that Unlocking your cell phone is now fully legal here in the U.S.—at least for the next three years. Last week, the Register of Copyrights released the latest list of exemptions to 1998’s Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), and along with it, some welcome news for cell phone users.
Of the six proposed exemptions (the largest number to date), the one that arguably affects U.S. consumers the most is number five on the list, which covers:
“Computer programs in the form of firmware that enable wireless telephone handsets to connect to a wireless telephone communication network, when circumvention is accomplished for the sole purpose of lawfully connecting to a wireless telephone communication network.”
In other words, it is now permissible for anyone to “unlock” a phone tied to one network and use it with another; as long as they own the phone.
Prior to this ruling, the act of taking a phones with a consumer after switching carriers was considered an infringement of the old carrier’s property rights. Consequently, customers were often forced to either return or throw away their old phones—that, or pay exorbitant fees to get a new phone along with their new plan.
Good news!!!

If you are using Windows XP and you want to set the priorities for particular tasks your system is performing, here is how you do it. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to get the task manager in Windows XP Home edition or press Ctrl+Alt+Del and select task manager in Windows XP Professional edition. Once the task manager is up, select the process you want to prioritize, right click on it, go to set priority and select the priority level you want. If you select realtime, then 100% of the CPU will be used for that tasks and you won’t be able to do anything. It’s best if you set the maximum level as High.

Microsoft may have to stop selling its flagship “Office” suite program in Korea temporarily due to patent infringement, according to a local technology transfer agent.
P&IB on Sunday said a recent court decision on its patent disputes with Microsoft Korea will eventually force the software powerhouse to exclude the technologies in question from its office package.Last Friday, the Supreme Court of Korea acknowledged that the patents are effective for technologies of automatically switching the input mode between Korean and English.
Prof. Lee Keung-hae of Hankuk Aviation University obtained domestic patents for the solution in 1997 and 1998 and P&IB purchased part of the patent rights later. Read more here…
